Claudia Calabria, MFA

Claudia explores the emotional locus of amputation on the restructured body. Her free-formed copper objects refer to residual limbs, altered to assist function. These manufactured shapes are distorted reminders of the body they now replace.

The manipulation of metal mimics a surgeon’s actions; stretching, tugging, grafting, tearing; repairing. Repetitive acts are trivial, and beyond.

These objects are containers of our discomfort. They hold fears of injury, hopes for healing, and give permission to map the pain of loss and the reinvention of the body.
