Meixian Li, BFA

This work is based on two primal human impulses: sex and killing. Most of us live in a protected world away from constant or dire threats, which has led us to a state of boredom or loss of touch with our vulnerability, causing us to seek new stimulation through simulated activities. Meixian Li asks viewers to confront their social morality by presenting them with the complex dual sensation of desire and danger. This conflicting experience vacillates from doubt to intellectual and visual satisfaction. Meixian finds that most women choose to disguise their feelings about sex and pleasure, asking the audience to consider: Do women really have the same rights and freedoms regarding sex as men do? Smooth polished surfaces and rough ridges could be uncomfortable yet also enjoyable to imagine and feel. Through these works, the audience faces their inner feelings while enjoying the works surprising visual and physical movement and texture.
