Joe Pillari, MFA

My work reflects the subtle beauty in the passing of time and the distance of memory through classic silversmithing and enameling technique. I am drawn to candid imagery that carries its own ambiguity and sentiments of empathy, ardor, passion, even love. These photos become the source material with which I collage a new scene; not simply lifted and applied, but reinterpreted with paint and brush and imbued with importance again. With each glimpse into this new history, my subjects are reborn and we are beckoned to connect with our own fate, examine what we might leave behind, and ask how our loved ones may endure among us forever.
