The crux of metaphor is to understand one thing in terms of another. Van Doren conceptualizes the mount as a metaphorical space. Perhaps the poetics of the mount are mirrored by the body. Our bodies hold histories that we protect and cradle carefully, pedestalize and contain with precision. The work’s "settings” clutch their forms— an ode to clinging, carrying, and reliance.
